The programme
All DTU students must have basic skills within innovation and quantitative sustainability.
Therefore, the polytechnical foundation is mandatory for all students.
The programme specific courses can be selected freely from the following three specializations.
- Photonics: Instrumentation and Applications where the focus is to construct and apply optics to multidisciplinary applications.
- Photonics: Materials and components with the focus on constructing photonic devices and materials in NanoLab.
- Photonics: Quantum Photonics where the focus is to understand physics behind the photonic devices.
You can also dedicate your study to one of the three specializations and add the specialization to your diploma.
The elective courses allow you to supplement your study/specialization with any course from the DTU Database. Elective courses could also be special courses, which provides the opportunity to join our researchers and gain experience in independent theoretical and/or experimental work in our laboratories.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship have high priority at DTU. Many of the Danish companies working within the field of optics and photonics have strong connections to our researchers. Therefore, we have a large network in case you wish to do your master thesis in collaboration with a company.
As an alternative our standard MSc program, the Industry MSc in Engineering is also highly recommend. This arrangement allow you to have a part time job in an optics-related company, while you do your MSc study. This MSc study is identical to our standard MSc-program but will be extended to 4 years (Industry Master of Science in Engineering (dtu.dk).
