4 million SEK to new research in voice health

The Swedish Insurance company AFA Försäkring has granted 4 million SEK to a research project in voice health. The project is a collaboration between Technical University of Denmark and Lund University.

One out of three people at the job marked have a job where they daily put pressure on their voices. School teachers, child care workers or staffs at call centres belong to the group of employees, who use their voices many hours a day. An overload of the vocal cords can damage the tissue and may cause micro-haemorrhages.

Associate professor Jonas Brunskog from Acoustic Technology is to develop methods that make it possible to identify what happens with the vocal cord before potential damages appear. The project will involve studies of school teacher with and without voice problems as well as patients who have undergone a surgery.
