Researchers will lower cost, energy usage, and environmental impact of solar cells by replacing silver parts with copper

A team of researchers and industry partners are developing copper contacts for photovoltaic panels to replace the currently used silver contacts. Copper is cheaper and more abundant than silver, and it will lower both the cost of electricity and the environmental impact of solar panels. The copper contacts will retain and perhaps even improve the efficiency of the solar energy harvesting. The project is backed with 10 mio. DKK from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program.
