Improving solar cells for greener energy

The Photovoltaic Materials and Systems Group at DTU Electro provides world class solutions for solar cell applications in solar parks and integrated in buildings.

The world needs to upscale the production of sustainable energy dramatically in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and at the same time supply the rising population with sufficient green energy. To contribute in solving this challenge, the Photovoltaic Materials and Systems Group also have the leading knowledge in materials science and tools to solve many of the open problems during light absorption and photovoltaic current generation from wafer size to atomic resolution.

We are working on solar cell systems from park size to cells and from cell materials down to molecular layers. The goal is to produce inexpensive green energy. This can be reached by producing better instruments and solar parks, more effective cells of new or well-known materials, and by enhancing our knowledge of the underlying science.

Our main direction is to explore new types and materials for solar cells and to improve the existing applications of solar cells and bringing it all into the forefront of solar cell research
